CASE STUDY 4

How an ex-rural banker
transformed his operation to
improve farm resilience

Willie White’s background in rural banking has been a major influence in him seeking to bring greater resilience into the family farming business. He was looking at alternative options for management when he attended a field day of a neighbouring regen ag farm. The impact of that field day was immense. He decided to shift his farming operation and focus on enhancing local ecosystems and building on farm resilience.

Within months the farm decreased synthetic N, P, K, and S fertiliser, and started planting diverse species pasture to improve soil and animal health.

Willie understands that soil comes from plants not fertiliser, and is incorporating cover crops, and native tree planting into his operations. The farm has already seen a substantial drop in milk urea rates and hopes to achieve Organic certification by 2023.

Sherwood Farm has increased profitability while decreasing synthetic N, P, K, and S fertiliser use, with the help of a trusted regen ag advisor.

During the transition year they used natural products such as organic fish fertiliser and Biosea Organic fertiliser.
